Ethiopian athlete, Feyisa Lilesa crossed his arms above his head,wearing illuminated shoes at the finish line of the Men’s Marathon event and Worried about himself, wife and two children safety after protest In Rio Olympic 2016.
He scared about his protest characteristics display,he wanted to draw attention to the government’s ongoing persecution of the Oromo people, but Lilesa said the protest had put himself and family in danger and he would be imprisoned if not killed.
Meanwhile the Ethiopian government minister says “Feyisa has nothing to fear after his protest,nothing is going to happen to his family nothing is going to happen to him.”
Reda said, As for Lilesa, he’s “is entitled to make” a “political statement. That is his right,” “It’s not about holding one political view or another.
The athlete shows sign of solidarity for his native Oromo people,a protest against the Ethiopian government’s political crackdown, the Oromo is the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia,make up at least a third of Ethiopia’s 100 million people. But they have been marginalized for decades, with tensions rising recently as the government promoted development that took over Oromo farmland.
Feyisa Lilesa won a silver medal with a time of 2:09:54, finishing behind liud Kipchoge of Kenya,he finished with a time of 2:08:44.
Feyisa has decided that he may resides anywhere in the world could be Kenya,Brazil or United States, base on how he can get a visa for those countries.
